Fun family favourites: our recommendations for the perfect family getaway

Whether you're craving a new scene, looking for some fun kid-friendly activities that everyone will enjoy, or are simply after a relaxing break with the whole crew where we do the cooking, check out our favourite family-friendly recommendations for a staycation in Richmond.

DAY ONE

Check in at 3pm, or arrive earlier and drop your bags with us. If you've booked directly, you can enjoy free parking so your stay will start off stress-free. Don't forget to find the special gift we've left in your room for the little ones. Either way, the first thing you must do is wander left out of the hotel and you'll see the gates into Richmond Park. Head for two minutes up the road and you'll find yourself in London's largest green space, bursting with wide open areas, pockets of wilderness, an abundance of wildlife and herds of deer.

Keep a look out for birds, mammals, beetles and wild flowers and play I-spy with your curious little ones. Can they spot some of the gorgeous deer that roam around the park? Just make sure to keep a safe distance. The Park also has some designated children's play areas if they need to let off a bit more steam!

In the evening, head back to the hotel and enjoy dinner in our gorgeous restaurant, bar and terrace, 144 On The Hill. When the weather is good, we recommend a well-deserved sun-downer on the terrace while the kids tuck into their very own menu. Our favourite adult tipples include our gorgeous G&Tea, our very own blackberry, coconut and ginger infusion complete with Earl Grey, mango puree and lime juice; or The Star, our pink pepper and citrus infusion with rhubarb liquor. Cocktails pair perfectly with our terrace menu, which offers a selection of small bites, signature burgers and seasonal delights.

Our kid's menu is great value at two courses for £10, or three for £15 and includes vegetable dippers, fish goujons and a delicious Oreo and brownie Sundae. They can feel like the grown ups too with our special apple and elderflower mock-mojito. Alternatively, served until 5pm, kids can tuck into their very own version of our afternoon tea, packed with sweet and savoury treats like finger sandwiches, crunchy choux lollipops, our jam and custard roly-poly and candy floss!

Later, head back to your room and enjoy relaxing together with your Samsung TV with SMART functionality, plus full Sky Movies package.

DAY TWO

Fuel everyone up for a busy day with our delicious breakfast, packed full of family favourites including muffins, pancakes, plenty of fruit and yoghurt as well as Full English and cooked options.

Head out to explore the area by bike. If you've brought your own, we'll be able to store them for you for free. Or, you can hire them from the lovely team at Blazing Saddles. You can either stroll down to Richmond Bridge (about a 20 minute walk down hill), or have your bikes delivered to the hotel. Prices start from £4 per hour for children (their bikes generally fit ages 6 to 10, otherwise child seats are available to hire) and £6 per hour for adults, both with complimentary helmets.

For a relaxed ride, venture back to Richmond Park where you can explore a variety of circular routes for a smooth and leisurely cycle. We also recommend heading to Pen Ponds to spot the ducks, swans and fish (and having a stop at the lovely little cafe), and the Isabella Plantation - a gorgeous woodland area for some amazing photo opportunities. You could always pick up a picnic from us to enjoy in this wonderful setting, simply pre-order your selection from our menu and we'll pack it up for you to take with you. Or, if you prefer something a bit different, why not swap the bikes for a saddle and visit our friends at Banfield Riding School who will take you for a horseback trot around the park.

Once you have dropped your bikes back off under the bridge, you're perfectly located to enjoy a short stroll down to St. Helena’s Pier to check out Turks Boats, where you can enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the Thames to Kingston or even Hampton Court Palace.

You can check out one of the many family friendly dinner spots in town, or come back to us of course. Either way, make sure you end the evening with a family sunset photo on the stunning terrace gardens opposite the hotel to capture the occasion.

DAY THREE

After you've enjoyed breakfast, checked out and packed up the car, our favourite family destination has to be the London Wetland Centre. Make the most of your holiday with a trip there on the way home. Just four miles away from us, it's one of the most beautiful and biodiverse landscapes in the local area. And, aside from being a magical spot to immerse yourself in nature, wetlands have a crucial role to play in protecting the environment so your little ones will be sure to learn too. You can explore the peaceful areas, see their adorable little animal residents and marvel over breath-taking vistas. The ideal end to a magical outdoor adventure for the big and little kids!

We have a range of options for the perfect family stay, from travel cots to sofa beds and adjoining rooms. Talk to our team on +44 (0) 20 8940 2247 and we'll help you build the perfect, memorable family adventure in Richmond.
