A Quintessential Afternoon Tea

One of the UK’s quintessential characteristics is the afternoon tea, much loved by the Brit’s since the mid-19th century when it was popularised by the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840. This pause for tea became a fashionable social event. During the 1880’s upper-class and society women would change into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea which was usually served in the drawing room between four and five o’clock. Now in the 21st Century there has been a revival of the traditional afternoon tea. Entrenched in to the British way of life, the delights of afternoon tea are being enjoyed all over the country.
